Frederick Douglass A Revolutionary Leader And Pioneer
Life histoory of Frederick Douglass Frederick Douglass, social reformer of an African American descent, was an orator, writer, statesman, abolitionist movement leader. He was born in 1818 in Talbot County in the United States in the area of Maryland. He gained prominence because of his extraordinary oratory skills. His antislavery writings were appreciated across America, particularly when he pointed out that the slaves lacked the basic intellectual rights to perform as the independent American citizens. Northern citizens of America, even had the hardest time to believe that such a good orator was once the victim of slavery tradition in the American continent (Frederick, 2009). He had a strong believer in relation to equality of people, be it of any class, color, sect or religion and dedicated his entire life for this cause. He had once said that he would unite with anybody to do the right thing and said that he would not unite with anybody to the wrong thing. Frederick Douglass was famous as a revolutionary leader and pioneer in the field of slavery abolished in the United States of America. He was known for his excellent oratory skills with the help of which he was able to put forward the cause of black Americans in front of the entire country and the result of which was abolition of total slavery in the country. The Host Chapter 40 Horrified Free Essays
I slowed when I heard the sound of voices. I was not close enough to the hospital for it to be Doc. Others were on their way back. We will write a custom essay sample on The Host Chapter 40: Horrified or any similar topic only for you Order Now I pressed myself against the rock wall and crept forward as quietly as I could. My breathing was ragged from running. I covered my mouth with my hand to stifle the sound. ââ¬Å"â⬠¦ why we keep doing this,â⬠someone complained. I wasnââ¬â¢t sure whose voice it was. Someone I didnââ¬â¢t know well. Maybe Violetta? It held that same depressed tone that I recognized from before. It erased any notion that Iââ¬â¢d been imagining things. ââ¬Å"Doc didnââ¬â¢t want to. It was Jaredââ¬â¢s idea this time.â⬠I was sure that it was Geoffrey who spoke now, though his voice was a little changed by the subdued revulsion in it. Geoffrey had been with Trudy on the raid, of course. They did everything together. ââ¬Å"I thought he was the biggest opponent to this business.â⬠That was Travis, I guessed. ââ¬Å"Heââ¬â¢s moreâ⬠¦ motivated now,â⬠Geoffrey answered. His voice was quiet, but I could tell he was angry about something. They passed just half a foot from where I cringed into the rocks. I froze, holding my breath. ââ¬Å"I think itââ¬â¢s sick,â⬠Violetta muttered. ââ¬Å"Disgusting. Itââ¬â¢s never going to work.â⬠They walked slowly, their steps weighted with despair. No one answered her. No one spoke again in my hearing. I stayed motionless until their footsteps had faded a little, but I couldnââ¬â¢t wait until the sound disappeared completely. Ian might be following me already. I crept forward as quickly as I could and then started jogging again when I decided it was safe. I saw the first faint hints of daylight streaming around the curving tunnel ahead, and I shifted into a quieter lope that still kept me moving swiftly. I knew that once I was around the gradual arc, I would be able to see the doorway into Docââ¬â¢s realm. I followed the bend, and the light grew brighter. I moved cautiously now, putting each foot down with silent care. It was very quiet. For a moment, I wondered if I was wrong and there was no one here at all. Then, as the uneven entrance came into view, throwing a block of white sunlight against the opposite wall, I could hear the sound of quiet sobbing. I tiptoed right to the edge of the gap and paused, listening. The sobbing continued. Another sound, a soft, rhythmic thudding, kept time with it. ââ¬Å"There, there.â⬠It was Jebââ¬â¢s voice, thick with some emotion. ââ¬Å"ââ¬ËS okay. ââ¬ËS okay, Doc. Donââ¬â¢t take it so hard.â⬠Hushed footsteps, more than one set, were moving around the room. Fabric rustling. A brushing sound. It reminded me of the sounds of cleaning. There was a smell that didnââ¬â¢t belong here. Strangeâ⬠¦ not quite metallic, but not quite anything else, either. The smell was not familiar-I was sure I had never smelled it before-and yet I had an odd feeling that it should be familiar to me. I was afraid to move around the corner. Whatââ¬â¢s the worst they will do to us? Mel pointed out. Make us leave? Youââ¬â¢re right. Things had definitely changed if that was the worst I could fear from the humans now. I took a deep breath-noticing again that strange, wrong smell-and eased around the rocky edge into the hospital. No one noticed me. Doc was kneeling on the floor, his face buried in his hands, his shoulders heaving. Jeb leaned over him, patting his back. Jared and Kyle were laying a crude stretcher beside one of the cots in the middle of the room. Jaredââ¬â¢s face was hard-the mask had come back while he was away. The cots were not empty, as they usually were. Something, hidden under dark green blankets, filled the length of both of them. Long and irregular, with familiar curves and anglesâ⬠¦ Docââ¬â¢s homemade table was arranged at the head of these cots, in the brightest spot of sunlight. The table glittered with silver-shiny scalpels and an assortment of antiquated medical tools that I couldnââ¬â¢t put a name to. Brighter than these were other silver things. Shimmering segments of silver stretched in twisted, tortured pieces across the tableâ⬠¦ tiny silver strands plucked and naked and scatteredâ⬠¦ splatters of silver liquid smeared on the table, the blankets, the wallsâ⬠¦ The quiet in the room was shattered by my scream. The whole room was shattered. It spun and shook to the sound, whirled around me so that I couldnââ¬â¢t find the way out. The walls, the silver-stained walls, rose up to block my escape no matter which way I turned. Someone shouted my name, but I couldnââ¬â¢t hear whose voice it was. The screaming was too loud. It hurt my head. The stone wall, oozing silver, slammed into me, and I fell to the floor. Heavy hands held me there. ââ¬Å"Doc, help!â⬠ââ¬Å"Whatââ¬â¢s wrong with her?â⬠ââ¬Å"Is it having a fit?â⬠ââ¬Å"What did she see?â⬠ââ¬Å"Nothing-nothing. The bodies were covered!â⬠That was a lie! The bodies were hideously uncovered, strewn in obscene contortions across the glittering table. Mutilated, dismembered, tortured bodies, ripped into grotesque shredsâ⬠¦ I had clearly seen the vestigial feelers still attached to the truncated anterior section of a child. Just a child! A baby! A baby thrown haphazardly in maimed pieces across the table smeared with its own bloodâ⬠¦ My stomach rolled like the walls were rolling, and acid clawed its way up my throat. ââ¬Å"Wanda? Can you hear me?â⬠ââ¬Å"Is she conscious?â⬠ââ¬Å"I think sheââ¬â¢s going to throw up.â⬠The last voice was right. Hard hands held my head while the acid in my stomach violently overflowed. ââ¬Å"What do we do, Doc?â⬠ââ¬Å"Hold on to her-donââ¬â¢t let her hurt herself.â⬠I coughed and squirmed, trying to escape. My throat cleared. ââ¬Å"Let me go!â⬠I was finally able to choke out. The words were garbled. ââ¬Å"Get away from me! Get away; youââ¬â¢re monsters! Torturers!â⬠I shrieked wordlessly again, twisting against the restraining arms. ââ¬Å"Calm down, Wanda! Shh! Itââ¬â¢s okay!â⬠That was Jaredââ¬â¢s voice. For once, it didnââ¬â¢t matter that it was Jared. ââ¬Å"Monster!â⬠I screamed at him. ââ¬Å"Sheââ¬â¢s hysterical,â⬠Doc told him. ââ¬Å"Hold on.â⬠A sharp, stinging blow whipped across my face. There was a gasp, far away from the immediate chaos. ââ¬Å"What are you doing?â⬠Ian roared. ââ¬Å"Itââ¬â¢s having a seizure or something, Ian. Docââ¬â¢s trying to bring it around.â⬠My ears were ringing, but not from the slap. It was the smell-the smell of the silver blood dripping down the walls-the smell of the blood of souls. The room writhed around me as though it were alive. The light twisted into strange patterns, curved into the shapes of monsters from my past. A Vulture unfurled its wingsâ⬠¦ a claw beast swung its heavy pincers toward my faceâ⬠¦ Doc smiled and reached for me with silver trickling from his fingertipsâ⬠¦ The room spun once more, slowly, and then went black. Unconsciousness didnââ¬â¢t claim me for long. It must have been only seconds later when my head cleared. I was all too lucid; I wished I could stay oblivious longer. I was moving, rocking back and forth, and it was too black to see. Mercifully, the horrible smell had faded. The musty, humid air of the caves was like perfume. The feeling of being carried, being cradled, was familiar. That first week after Kyle had injured me, Iââ¬â¢d traveled many places in Ianââ¬â¢s arms. ââ¬Å"â⬠¦ thought sheââ¬â¢d have guessed what we were up to. Looks like I was wrong,â⬠Jared was murmuring. ââ¬Å"You think thatââ¬â¢s what happened?â⬠Ianââ¬â¢s voice cut hard in the quiet tunnel. ââ¬Å"That she was scared because Doc was trying to take the other souls out? That she was afraid for herself?â⬠Jared didnââ¬â¢t answer for a minute. ââ¬Å"You donââ¬â¢t?â⬠Ian made a sound in the back of his throat. ââ¬Å"No. I donââ¬â¢t. As disgusted as I am that you would bring back moreâ⬠¦ victims for Doc, bring them back now!-as much as that turns my stomach, thatââ¬â¢s not what upset her. How can you be so blind? Canââ¬â¢t you imagine what that must have looked like to her in there?â⬠ââ¬Å"I know we had the bodies covered before -ââ¬Å" ââ¬Å"The wrong bodies, Jared. Oh, Iââ¬â¢m sure Wanda would be upset by a human corpse-sheââ¬â¢s so gentle; violence and death arenââ¬â¢t a part of her normal world. But think what the things on that table must have meant to her.â⬠It took him another moment. ââ¬Å"Oh.â⬠ââ¬Å"Yes. If you or I had walked in on a human vivisection, with torn body parts, with blood splattered on everything, it wouldnââ¬â¢t have been as bad for us as it was for her. Weââ¬â¢d have seen it all before-even before the invasion, in horror movies, at least. Iââ¬â¢d bet sheââ¬â¢s never been exposed to anything like that in all her lives.â⬠I was getting sick again. His words were bringing it back. The sight. The smell. ââ¬Å"Let me go,â⬠I whispered. ââ¬Å"Put me down.â⬠ââ¬Å"I didnââ¬â¢t mean to wake you. Iââ¬â¢m sorry.â⬠The last words were fervent, apologizing for more than waking me. ââ¬Å"Let me go.â⬠ââ¬Å"Youââ¬â¢re not well. Iââ¬â¢ll take you to your room.â⬠ââ¬Å"No. Put me down now.â⬠ââ¬Å"Wanda -ââ¬Å" ââ¬Å"Now!â⬠I shouted. I shoved against Ianââ¬â¢s chest, kicking my legs free at the same time. The ferocity of my struggle surprised him. He lost his hold on me, and I half fell into a crouch on the floor. I sprang up from the crouch running. ââ¬Å"Wanda!â⬠ââ¬Å"Let her go.â⬠ââ¬Å"Donââ¬â¢t touch me! Wanda, come back!â⬠It sounded like they were wrestling behind me, but I didnââ¬â¢t slow. Of course they were fighting. They were humans. Violence was pleasure to them. I didnââ¬â¢t pause when I was back in the light. I sprinted through the big cavern without looking at any of the monsters there. I could feel their eyes on me, and I didnââ¬â¢t care. I didnââ¬â¢t care where I was going, either. Just somewhere I could be alone. I avoided the tunnels that had people near them, running down the first empty one I could find. It was the eastern tunnel. This was the second time Iââ¬â¢d sprinted through this corridor today. Last time in joy, this time in horror. It was hard to remember how Iââ¬â¢d felt this afternoon, knowing the raiders were home. Everything was dark and gruesome now, including their return. The very stones seemed evil. This way was the right choice for me, though. No one had any reason to come here, and it was empty. I ran to the farthest end of the tunnel, into the deep night of the empty game room. Could I really have played games with them such a short time ago? Believed the smiles on their faces, not seeing the beasts underneathâ⬠¦ I moved forward until I stumbled ankle deep into the oily waters of the dark spring. I backed away, my hand outstretched, searching for a wall. When I found a rough ridge of stone-sharp-edged beneath my fingers-I turned into the depression behind the protrusion and curled myself into a tight ball on the ground there. It wasnââ¬â¢t what we thought. Doc wasnââ¬â¢t hurting anyone on purpose; he was just trying to save ââ¬â GET OUT OF MY HEAD! I shrieked. As I thrust her away from me-gagged her so that I wouldnââ¬â¢t have to bear her justifications-I realized how weak sheââ¬â¢d grown in all these months of friendliness. How much Iââ¬â¢d been allowing. Encouraging. It was almost too easy to silence her. As easy as it should have been from the beginning. It was only me now. Just me, and the pain and the horror that I would never escape. I would never not have that image in my head again. I would never be free of it. It was forever a part of me. I didnââ¬â¢t know how to mourn here. I could not mourn in human ways for these lost souls whose names I would never know. For the broken child on the table. I had never had to mourn on the Origin. I didnââ¬â¢t know how it was done there, in the truest home of my kind. So I settled for the way of the Bats. It seemed appropriate, here where it was as black as being blind. The Bats mourned with silence-not singing for weeks on end until the pain of the nothingness left behind by the lack of music was worse than the pain of losing a soul. Iââ¬â¢d known loss there. A friend, killed in a freak accident, a falling tree in the night, found too late to save him from the crushed body of his host. Spiralingâ⬠¦ Upwardâ⬠¦ Harmony; those were the words that would have held his name in this language. Not exact, but close enough. There had been no horror in his death, only grief. An accident. The bubbling stream was too discordant to remind me of our songs. I could grieve beside its harmony-free clatter. I wrapped my arms tightly around my shoulders and mourned for the child and the other soul who had died with it. My siblings. My family. If I had found a way free of this place, if I had warned the Seekers, their remains would not be so casually mangled and mixed together in that blood-steeped room. I wanted to cry, to keen in misery. But that was the human way. So I locked my lips and hunched in the darkness, holding the pain inside. My silence, my mourning, was stolen from me. It took them a few hours. I heard them looking, heard their voices echo and warp in the long tubes of air. They were calling for me, expecting an answer. When they received no answer, they brought lights. Not the dim blue lanterns that might never have revealed my hiding place here, buried under all this blackness, but the sharp yellow lances of flashlights. They swept back and forth, pendulums of light. Even with the flashlights, they didnââ¬â¢t find me until the third search of the room. Why couldnââ¬â¢t they leave me alone? When the flashlightââ¬â¢s beam finally disinterred me, there was a gasp of relief. ââ¬Å"I found her! Tell the others to get back inside! Sheââ¬â¢s in here after all!â⬠I knew the voice, but I didnââ¬â¢t put a name to it. Just another monster. ââ¬Å"Wanda? Wanda? Are you all right?â⬠I didnââ¬â¢t raise my head or open my eyes. I was in mourning. ââ¬Å"Whereââ¬â¢s Ian?â⬠ââ¬Å"Should we get Jamie, do you think?â⬠ââ¬Å"He shouldnââ¬â¢t be on that leg.â⬠Jamie. I shuddered at his name. My Jamie. He was a monster, too. He was just like the rest of them. My Jamie. It was a physical pain to think of him. ââ¬Å"Where is she?â⬠ââ¬Å"Over here, Jared. Sheââ¬â¢s notâ⬠¦ responding.â⬠ââ¬Å"We didnââ¬â¢t touch her.â⬠ââ¬Å"Here, give me the light,â⬠Jared said. ââ¬Å"Now, the rest of you, get out of here. Emergency over. Give her some air, okay?â⬠There was a shuffling noise that didnââ¬â¢t travel far. ââ¬Å"Seriously, people. Youââ¬â¢re not helping. Leave. All the way out.â⬠The shuffling was slow at first, but then became more productive. I could hear many footsteps fading away in the room and then disappearing out of it. Jared waited until it was silent again. ââ¬Å"Okay, Wanda, itââ¬â¢s just you and me.â⬠He waited for some kind of answer. ââ¬Å"Look, I guess that must have been prettyâ⬠¦ bad. We never wanted you to see that. Iââ¬â¢m sorry.â⬠Sorry? Geoffreyââ¬â¢d said it was Jaredââ¬â¢s idea. He wanted to cut me out, slice me into little pieces, fling my blood on the wall. Heââ¬â¢d slowly mangle a million of me if he could find a way to keep his favorite monster alive with him. Slash us all to slivers. He was quiet for a long time, still waiting for me to react. ââ¬Å"You look like you want to be alone. Thatââ¬â¢s okay. I can keep them away, if thatââ¬â¢s what you want.â⬠I didnââ¬â¢t move. Something touched my shoulder. I cringed away from it, into the sharp stones. ââ¬Å"Sorry,â⬠he muttered. I heard him stand, and the light-red behind my closed eyes-began to fade as he walked away. He met someone in the mouth of the cave. ââ¬Å"Where is she?â⬠ââ¬Å"She wants to be alone. Let her be.â⬠ââ¬Å"Donââ¬â¢t get in my way again, Howe.â⬠ââ¬Å"Do you think she wants comfort from you? From a human?â⬠ââ¬Å"I wasnââ¬â¢t party to this -ââ¬Å" Jared answered in a lower voice, but I could still hear the echoes. ââ¬Å"Not this time. Youââ¬â¢re one of us, Ian. Her enemy. Did you hear what she said in there? She was screaming monsters. Thatââ¬â¢s how she sees us now. She doesnââ¬â¢t want your comfort.â⬠ââ¬Å"Give me the light.â⬠They didnââ¬â¢t speak again. A minute passed, and I heard one set of slow footsteps moving around the edge of the room. Eventually, the light swept across me, turning my lids red again. I huddled myself more tightly together, expecting him to touch me. There was a quiet sigh, and then the sound of him sitting on the stone, not as close beside me as I would have expected. With a click, the light disappeared. I waited in the silence for a long time for him to speak, but he was just as silent as I was. Finally, I stopped waiting and returned to my mourning. Ian did not interrupt. I sat in the blackness of the big hole in the ground and grieved for lost souls with a human at my side. How to cite The Host Chapter 40: Horrified, Essay examples

Romero Essays (599 words) - English-language Films, Films, Romero
Romero When the movie starts off, you are introduced to only a portion of the injustice that the El Salvadorians faced. The new president was supposed to be one that was elected into office. It was unimaginable to me that citizens who were on their way to vote were stopped. They were only allowed to proceed by foot. There is no way that any such think could occur here, in the United States. It's hard for me to accept that things like that actually happened, and still happen. It was time to appoint a new archbishop. The other priests elected Romero thinking that he wouldn't make any waves. This shocked me. People would actually use as criteria for archbishop whether or not they would make waves. I would think that they would want the person in that position to be strong in their beliefs. It later turned out that Romero would unpleasantly surprise them. This movie also showed a very vivid line between the rich and the poor. It was hard to believe that they all lived in the same country. The wealthy barely even treat the poor like people. They are merely pests that they avoid at all costs. I know that in America the gap between the very rich and the very poor is wide, but there is at least some form of middle class, and the poor have the same rights as everyone else. When the guerillas started to attack the people, in the square when the people were receiving communion for instance, Romero finally stood up. It is not really the place of the Church to take a political stand, but no one else in such a powerful position was standing up for the rights of the people being oppressed. Romero went to lengths beyond what anyone expected or hoped he would go to. Unfortunately, his heroism was not greeted very well, except by the people he was defending. It just amazed me how strong he was in what he believed. It takes such courage and wit to follow through with the things that he did. I can't even fathom how hard it was to walk into that prison and walk out with a prisoner. If he had been anyone but the Archbishop, he would have been killed. I think the part that made me realize his faith the most was when he walked into the church that had been taken by the army. He just walked right in past the big man holding the gun. He started to pick up the communion even while shots were being fired. And after he left, he came back and gave communion to the crowd. It was just so touching. The people believed in him as much as he believed in what he was doing. I've never been faced with anything near as big as the struggle that the El Salvadorians were facing. To have to live in those conditions, and to have no one be able to protect you or fight for what you believe in. It is so unimaginable to me that they had virtually no rights. It made me so sad that at the end, Romero was assassinated. It was really no surprise. Anyone that stood up for what they believed in that was opposite of what the people in power were preaching was killed. Romero was the only person in power to stand up. He was protected for a while because of his status, but it could not protect him forever. I know that struggles like this occur in America, but on a much smaller level that no one notices. I guess that makes it hard for me to conceive of something like this actually ever happening. It makes me so sad to realize that it really did.

Heating Properties of Firewood by Tree Species
Heating Properties of Firewood by Tree Species Firewood performance can differ from species to species. The type of tree you use for burning can vary widely in heat content, burning characteristics, and overall quality. I have created a table that presents several important burning characteristics for many species used in North America. The chart ranks each tree species by its density which is a good indicator of overall heating effectiveness. Wood Characteristics Influencing Quality Heating and Ignition Density of Wood - density is the amount of space a volume or mass of firewood occupies. The denser the wood, the less space its given mass takes up and the greater a particular volume of firewood weighs.à For an example,à hickory is about twice as dense as aspen, so a cubic foot of hickory weighs approximately 50 pounds while a cubic foot of aspen weighs only about 25 pounds.à Green Vs. Dry Wood - Firewood should be dried (seasoned) to 10% to 20% moisture content for best burning performance. Much of the energy generated from burning green firewood actually goes toward evaporating the water held in the wood. Green firewood only gives off about 40% of the energy of dry firewood. To get the most heat production out of your firewood, you should season it by first cutting into short log bolts. Split these bolts and stack in a dry,à well-ventilatedà area for at least six months before burning. Available Heat by Wood Speciesà - Available heat is a measure of the heat given off when wood is burnt and measured in million British Thermal Units. Hardwood trees giveà off more energy in BTUs than a comparable volume of softwood because it is denser. It should be noted thatà the volatile oils in some softwoods can increase the heat output of some species but only for a short time. Ease of Splitting - Wood with a straight grain is easier to split than wood with a tighter more complex grain. Knots, branches, and other defects can also increase the difficulty of splitting firewood. Remember that dry wood is generally easier to split than green wood. Ease of Igniting Firewood - Ignition ability is an important factor wood factor. Low-density wood is easier to light than denser wood. Woods with higher levels of volatile chemicals in their structure, such as conifers, will igniteà and burn more readily than those with less volatile chemicals. These woods should be used to start fires where dryà high-density woods will provide the heat. Definitions of Chart Terms Density - woods dry weight per unit volume. Denser or heavier wood contains more heat per volume. Note that hickory ranks at the top of the list.Green Weight - the weight in pounds of a cord of freshly cut wood before drying.mmBTUs - million British Thermal Units. The woods actual available heat measured in BTUs.Coaling - wood that forms long-lasting coals are good to use in wood stoves because they allow a fire to be carried over a longer period effectively.
How Often Should You Take Complete Official ACT Practice Tests
How Often Should You Take Complete Official ACT Practice Tests SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips Taking official ACT practice tests under realistic testing conditions is vital to good ACT prep, but after a certain point you can hit a wall and stop getting any benefit out of it. In this article, weââ¬â¢ll discuss the frequency with which you should take ACT practice tests. feature image credit: Flying/used under CC BY 2.0/Cropped and resized from original. Why Use Official Practice Tests? In order to figure out how often to take practice tests, you must first be clear on what youââ¬â¢re getting out of them. The top four reasons for taking official ACT practice tests are to: get accustomed to the experience of sitting down and taking the real thing (including becoming comfortable with taking the full test at 8am) build up your stamina and ability to focus for long periods of time figure out where your weaknesses are judge your progress and studying efficacy Another way of using practice tests is to break them up and only go through the particular section you need to work on at a time. For example, if you run out of time on the Reading section, you may want to take several ACT Reading sections in isolation to work on your time management. This way of using official practice tests is a good way to focus your studying and break up the monotony of doing complete practice test after complete practice test. It's also a better use of your time to do this if youââ¬â¢re only struggling with particular subject areas or question types. Because there are a limited number of official practice tests available to practice with (either as full tests or broken up into section-specific practice), if you think you have a decent chance of going through all of them, itââ¬â¢s important to plan out ahead of time when youââ¬â¢re going to take ACT practice tests. Set Up an Official Practice Test Schedule Now that weââ¬â¢ve discussed why students take official practice tests, weââ¬â¢ll explain how to space them out for students with varying amounts of time before the test. Note that this is only a rough guideline to get you started and that you should be flexible in your own studying to make sure you get the most out of each practice test. Weââ¬â¢ve deliberately only included four complete practice tests in the schedules for various scenarios. For most students, practicing specific sections of practice tests is a valuable and necessary addition to taking full-length official practice tests, so you should break up and use the remaining official practice tests at your own discretion. In general, we recommend frontloading your studying with practice tests, because youââ¬â¢re most likely to need the most practice across different sections at the beginning of your studying. If youââ¬â¢re studying effectively, your problem areas should shrink as you go along, making it more advantageous to spend more time on specific sections, rather than taking full-length practice tests (or if you do take full-length practice tests, you need to be sure to review in between so you can improve). At the same time, you need to make sure that youââ¬â¢re taking practice tests close enough to the real ACT to not get rusty. 1-Year Practice Test Schedule If you have a full year to study before the ACT, we recommend planning out your official test taking so that you take... one practice test when you begin studying one practice test 2-3 months into your studying one practice test 6-8 months into your studying one practice test a week or so before the ACT Youââ¬â¢ll probably want to take more than four practice tests over the course of a year of ACT prep, but they donââ¬â¢t all have to be official ones. Spend the time in between practice tests reviewing the questions you got wrong and drilling yourself on questions you find difficult. 6-Month Practice Test Schedule The way you space out practice ACTs over a six-month study period is similar to the yearlong study schedule, but the time between each test is a little more condensed. Plan on taking an official practice ACT... at the start of your studying 1-2 months into your studying 4-5 months into your studying a week or so before the real ACT 365-316/used under CC BY 2.0/Cropped from original. Condense the sandwich of a yearlong study plan into a panini of a six-month practice schedule. 3-Month Practice Test Schedule With just three months of studying before the test, the timing of official ACT practice tests will get even tighter. You'll want to take an official ACT practice test... at the beginning of your studying three weeks into your studying 1-2 months into your studying a week or so before the ACT If you compare this to the six-month practice test schedule, you'll see that there are a lot of similarities; the main difference is in the timing of the second practice test, which needs to happen much sooner if you're only studying for the ACT over a period of three months. 1-Month Practice Test Schedule With only one month to study, youââ¬â¢ll be cramming a lot of work into a short amount of time. The same basic principles of lessening practice test frequencies still hold, however. Below, we've mapped out a sample schedule for students who only have one month to study for the ACT: Sunday Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday Week 1 Practice Test Practice Test Week 2 Practice Test Week 3 Test Week Practice Test ACT! In the one-month study schedule, we've intentionally put the practice tests on Saturdays and Sundays so that students can take them at the same time of day as theyââ¬â¢ll be taking the real ACT. However, if you canââ¬â¢t do this because of scheduling conflicts, thatââ¬â¢s fine ââ¬â just try to keep the same basic shape and spacing as the above schedule. Whatââ¬â¢s Next?
